Maury Winter
Companion in the Chaos, LLC, EMDR Trained
My name is Maury and I am an LPCC who specializes in addictions, grief/loss, and trauma.
I (like everyone else) make the most of my time in this strange world. I would define my style of counseling as collaborative, exploratory, and deeply existential. In our time together, we will leave morality and judgment at the door, and focus on what really matters – deepening your understanding of your reality. We will work collaboratively to bring your “true self” into focus, uncover how you came to be the unique person you are today, and define the person you wish to someday become. While this process can sometimes be uncomfortable (who ever grew in comfort anyway?), my commitment to you is that I will be alongside you every step of the way.
I have spent time working with clients in grief, processing the unthinkable pain of losing a loved one. But grief is not simply confined to death loss – grief is loss of ANYTHING. Grief is the natural byproduct of change, and it is a simple – yet devastatingly painful – fact of existence. If you are grieving a loss of any kind (be it a loved one, a relationship, or even the childhood you wish you’d had), you deserve a companion to walk alongside you as you process how this loss has changed you. Loss is written into the contract of our lives – and it is a walk we all take together.
I have also worked in a detox clinic for three years, walking alongside people struggling with their addiction. My clients have taught me that underneath our addictions are silent wounds, hiding out of sight but clamoring for attention. In this work, we do not concern ourselves with right and wrong – we want to discover and befriend what torments us. The truth is… we can handle it.
I am also friendly toward psychedelic exploration (should you find yourself along this path) and I am eager to help as you integrate your experiences into the broader context of your life.
This journey we will embark on is not mine to lead, but I promise I will walk with you as far as you are willing to go.
